ABOUT THE ARTIST

"My work is shaped by the stories I've lived, the people I've loved, and the belief that art has a way of meeting each of us differently. My hope is that every piece preserves a memory, sparks hope, or becomes part of someone else's story."
- Camryn McLelland

I've had a paintbrush in my hand for as long as I can remember.

Some of my earliest memories are of sitting on the floor with paint scattered around me, completely content to create for hours. When I was young, I was constantly painting figures in flowing dresses. I filled sketchbooks and canvases with them without ever really questioning why. Looking back now, I smile at how much my work has changed since those early days.

The dresses disappeared.

The subjects changed.

The mediums evolved.

But the heart behind the work never did.

I've never wanted to paint the same thing forever, because life doesn't stay the same forever. Every season has shaped me differently, and my art has naturally grown alongside me. I don't believe creativity is meant to fit neatly inside one subject, style, or medium. Some stories ask to be told through paint. Others come alive through texture, photography, writing, or something entirely unexpected.

For me, art has always been less about creating something that simply looks beautiful and more about creating something that makes you feel.

I love that two people can stand in front of the exact same painting and walk away carrying completely different emotions. One person may see hope while another sees grief. One may be reminded of someone they love while another simply falls in love with the colors. Someone might see a familiar place, while someone else sees something they've never experienced before.

None of them are wrong.

We bring our own memories, experiences, seasons, and stories to everything we encounter. Because of that, a painting can quietly become something different to every person who stands in front of it. I think that is one of the greatest gifts art can give us.

My relationship with art began long before I understood where it might take me.

In high school, I had the opportunity to exhibit my work in two art shows, one in Georgia and another in Florida. Those experiences gave me my first glimpse into what it felt like to take something deeply personal and place it in front of complete strangers. I didn't know it then, but those moments planted a dream that would continue growing in me for years.

I went on to earn my Bachelor's degree in Fashion Merchandising with a concentration in Brand Management from the University of Georgia. During that time, I discovered another side of creativity through branding, marketing, photography, web development, and visual storytelling. I began to understand that creativity wasn't limited to a canvas. It could shape a brand, tell a story, build a business, or help someone bring an idea that existed only in their head into the real world.

That part of my journey continues to influence the way I approach my art today.

My work has never existed in isolation from the rest of my life. Everything I create is influenced by the places I've been, the people I've loved, the things I've lost, the seasons I've walked through, and the beauty I've found along the way.

The beginning of my professional creative journey came during one of the hardest seasons of my life.

After losing my first golden retriever, Gordon Ramsay, I experienced a kind of grief that changed me. Around the same time, complications from my autoimmune disease caused me to lose feeling in my hands, making traditional painting something I wasn't sure I would be able to continue.

Creating had always been how I made sense of the world, and suddenly the thing that had always brought me peace felt uncertain.

So I found another way to create.

What began as digital artwork eventually grew into a creative business centered around memorial portraits, photography, branding, and storytelling. Memorial artwork became especially meaningful to me because I understood firsthand that our animals are never simply pets. They become part of our families, our routines, our memories, and the chapters of our lives that we never want to forget.

Every portrait was an opportunity to preserve a piece of that love.

Those years taught me something I carry with me into every painting today: the things we create can hold memories long after the moment itself has passed.

Eventually, I found my way back to the canvas.

And when I did, I realized I had changed.

I no longer felt the need to create within the boundaries of what I thought an artist was supposed to be. Mixed media opened up an entirely new world for me. Texture became another language. Photography continued to influence the way I see composition and light. Writing became woven into the stories behind my collections. Paint became less about perfectly recreating what I saw and more about capturing what I felt.

That realization ultimately led me here.

Camryn McLelland Fine Art is not simply a new name. It is a return to the artist I have always been.

My work is rooted in nature, memory, emotion, and the quiet beauty found in ordinary moments. I am drawn to florals, landscapes, organic forms, and the feeling of places that stay with us long after we've left them. I love creating work that feels a little imperfect, a little unexpected, and deeply human.

I don't want every painting to tell you exactly what to see.

I want it to give you somewhere to begin.

There have been seasons when creating came easily and seasons when it felt almost impossible. My life has asked me to adapt more times than I ever expected. Through autoimmune disease, loss, cancer, uncertainty, and the many moments in between, I have learned that life can change in an instant.

Those experiences changed the way I see time.

They changed the way I see beauty.

And they changed the way I see the gift of being able to create.

For a long time, I thought art was simply something I loved to do.

Now I believe it is part of my calling.

My faith is at the center of that belief. I am a strong believer, and I truly believe the Lord has carried me through every season that brought me here. Through loss, uncertainty, illness, healing, and all the moments when I didn't know what would come next, I have experienced His faithfulness in ways I could never fully put into words.

I believe the gifts we are given are meant to be shared.

For me, creating is one of the ways I do that.

Sometimes that means painting something that brings someone peace. Sometimes it means creating a memorial that allows someone to hold onto a cherished memory. Sometimes it means helping another person bring their own creative vision to life. And sometimes it simply means making something beautiful because beauty itself can be a form of hope.

My greatest hope isn't simply that someone hangs one of my paintings on their wall.

I hope it becomes part of their story.

I hope a painting reminds someone of a person they love, a place they once called home, a season they survived, a dream they finally chose to pursue, or a version of themselves they don't want to forget.

I hope it makes them pause.

I hope it makes them feel something.

Maybe it's nostalgia. Maybe it's comfort. Maybe it's joy. Maybe it's something they can't quite put into words.

Whatever it is, I hope they carry a little bit of it with them.

Because I don't believe the greatest works of art simply decorate our homes.

I believe they become part of our lives.

And that is what I hope to create.

Something you don't simply look at, but something you remember.
